After School, What Next?
INTRODUCTION:
# #
I give all glories to God that made it possible for all of us to gather here today to celebrate success and be part of history.
Today marks the passing out ceremony of our students who have laboured not in vain to achieve education at the Junior Secondary Level even though you still have a long way to go in life. There still any bridges ahead to cross really. The journey so far has been extremely wonderful.
You the graduating students, I congratulate all of you for your efforts and the struggles in getting yourself educated and staying out of ignorance which is a chronic disease.
However, as you begin the jubilation! This must be clearly stated to you and also you must be fully prepared for the challenges that lies ahead.
First and foremost, the following people deserved to be praised:
1. The Almighty God – Alpha & Omega
2. Our Good Teachers- The fathers and mothers of Education [May God not remove the hands of teachers from our lives…Teachers are the real builders of nations!]
3. The Good Parents: who value and cherish education and are able to invest in the best legacy. Education remains the best legacy to bestow a child as parents.
4. The Government –that understand what governance is all about. Created an enabling environment. And are able to make ‘’Education’’ the right of every child!
5. Yourself: The graduating student of today! Who offered themselves like a sheep to be sacrificed? You allowed yourselves to be taught in the school for years without relenting. Please, fire on! Don’t rest on your oars, the best is yet to be!
Meanwhile, we need to have a clearer understanding plus the right perspective of what Education is all about or what it entails to be educated. Or better put: we may ask this question:
WHO IS EDUCATED?
In answering this simple but meaningful question, let us first define what education is all about:
‘’ Education is the ALL ROUND DEVELOPMENT of a child.’’ [To be spiritually, physically, socially, academically, and morally developed]
Education is the process of teaching, training and learning most especially in schools or colleges to improve plus impact knowledge and also develop skills: primary/elementary education
Secondary education; further/higher/post-secondary education.
An EDUCATED PERSON: is somebody who have been to the school, college or university and have been taught the ‘’How to’’ of so many things over a period of time at school.
An educated fellow is the person who not only pass-through the school but equally allowed the school to pass through him.
Until a person allows what he or she have been taught to have positive impact on him or her, such a fellow cannot be regarded as been educated.
It is a great pity that we have schools in the country too numerous to count but only few people could be regarded as educated. The display of ignorance at every sector of the society is a clear prove that we have a long way to go.
The level of decay that our country is experiencing is questionable. If really we have schools and actually graduated student are produced from our schools for a better society. Then, why the level of decay? Do we really know what we are doing?
Are we really educated at all?
Are we mentally O.K as citizens?
Is something great not wrong with us?
Do we know what we are doing/
Do we understand the next thing to do?
In finding answers to some of these raised questions and many more that agitates my mind gave birth to the topic of this lecture:
AFTER SCHOOL, WHAT NEXT?
When it comes to EDUCTION or acquisition of KWOLEGDE, there is NO BUSSTOP. Education is a continuous exercise. In fact, the day a man stop learning, he or she becomes DECAY! When you stop learning you stop living!
The Holy Bible says in Hosea 4:6:
‘’ My people perish for lack of knowledge!’’
However, the following are the right types of education that every individual must set as priority:
1. Moral Education or Religious Education:-the spiritual development of a child [following the teachings of The Holy Books: Bible & Quran]
Parents should ensure that their children are spiritually developed and morally sound. ‘’ Charity begins at Home’’ says an adage.
2. Self-Education: Self Development:
This is the best form of education. That’s building yourself to be fit at all times.
If you must be relevant in the society after school, you must be ready to build yourself. Stop leaving in the past. Things are changing every moment. Change is inevitable. To keep up with time, you must acquire relevant skills and information. Those who relied too must on yesterday’s info are often irrelevant today! Get yourself updated all the time. You must seriously work on yourself.
My advice to you leaving school today is to start engaging yourself in other vocational studies why awaiting admission into higher institution of learning.
There is nothing bad in engaging in anything that will make your life better!
3. Financial Education or Financial Intelligence
This is a crucial aspect of education that every individual that does not want to suffer in life must acquire as a matter of must. No one can live life well without financial matters needed for survival.
But it is a great pity that Financial Education is yet to be well taught in schools. That remains a great fault in our system of education today. It not an all-round development programme in the real sense of it. No wonder that many attended schools without been fulfilled in the real sense of it. Life will be painful and stressful to live when you lack the right understanding about money making, savings and investing!
What is Financial Education you may be asking?
Financial Education is simply about having the right and correct understanding of ASSETS & LIABILITIES. Having the perfect knowledge of how to make money and spending it well in the right perspective through regular savings and investments. Those who never pray to suffer any setback financially would always be mindful of their finances all the time.
AFTER SCHOOL, WHAT NEXT? [PART TWO]
As you are leaving school today and entering into the world of diverse experiences, I advise you that the next to do is to start
SEEKING FOR THE FOLLOWING THINGS:
‘’ The Holy Bible says’’ Seek and ye shall find; you shall ask and it shall be given unto you’’ Matthew 7:7
‘’Knock, and the door shall be open unto you!’’
Look, the right understanding of that verse of the Holy Bible is a great key to success in life.
Henceforth, I implore you to begin your search with the reasonable acquisition of the following crucial things if you do not to live and regret in your humanity journey of destiny:
