💔 NEVER LET GO – EPISODE THIRTY NINE: “When Two Hearts Finally Meet Again”

The flight had barely left the runway when Stanley’s heart began its restless dance. Every memory of Ivy tugged at him with gentle insistence. At one moment he smiled faintly, remembering how her laughter once brightened the simplest moments. Then the smile faded as worry crept in. His fingers tapped against his knee. His breath shifted between hope and fear. Every mile they moved closer to Lagos made his chest feel tighter, heavier and painfully full.

Cindy watched him and placed a gentle hand on his arm.

“She misses you,” she said. “I know it. Do not fear.”

He nodded but the fear did not leave.

They arrived in Lagos in a little over an hour. The sun was soft and the breeze warm. Cindy insisted they stop at her apartment first. Flora and Linda had just returned from a wedding. Ivy had gone with them earlier but had left for her parents’ house before Cindy arrived.

When Stanley entered the apartment with Cindy, both Linda and Flora froze.

They stared at him like someone staring at a painting too beautiful to believe it was real.

Cindy laughed. “Calm down. It is not what you are thinking.”

Linda whispered, “Cindy, you brought home a very handsome man.”

Flora pressed her palm to her chest. “He smells heavenly.”

Stanley sat down, used to this reaction from women already, slightly embarrassed but not surprised.

Cindy shook her head. “He is not my man. This is Stanley. Ivy’s Stanley.”

The girls gasped loudly. They blinked rapidly. Their mouths opened.

“But he is finer than what Ivy described,” Flora said.

“This is unfair. Only Ivy has this whole package of handsomeness," Linda added.

Stanley smiled politely. “Thank you.”

Then came the painful news.

“Ivy left not long ago,” Linda said. “She only dropped her things after the wedding and went home.”

Stanley felt his heart tumble slightly but he remained calm.

Cindy finished her packing and drove him to Ivy’s house. Along the way Stanley asked, “I thought you said all of you live together.”

Cindy sighed. “She lives with her parents now. There is a lot you need to hear. Let her tell you herself.”

Stanley blinked, confused and very shocked.

"Parents?"

"Don't worry, you will know better very soon."

They soon arrived. Stanley’s heart slammed against his chest. His throat felt tight. His palms were cold.

Cindy rang the doorbell.

Inside, Ivy was holding a glass of water. She had just changed into her home clothes shortly after she returned from Cindy's house. She wondered who could be at the door and went to get it. Her footsteps came close. Then she opened the door.

She was suddenly thunderstruck upon seeing Stanley unexpectedly. Time stopped.

The glass of water slipped from her hand and shattered on the floor the moment her eyes met Stanley’s. Water splashed around her feet but she did not even blink. Her whole body froze. Her lips parted in a trembling breath.

Stanley stood there, also frozen like a man hit by a wave so strong it stole every breath from his body. His chest rose and fell too quickly. His eyes glistened like they were carrying the weight of many months of longing.

“Ivy…” he barely whispered.

“St...Stanley…” she breathed out in a stammer.

Their voices broke at the same time.

Then their bodies moved before their minds could catch up. He stepped into her arms. She threw herself into his chest. They collided with a force that came from every buried ache, every sleepless night, every memory that refused to fade. Their embrace was tight. So tight. Arms locked. Bodies pressed. Heart against heart. Breath mixed with breath.

They held each other as if letting go would end their lives. Ivy’s fingers gripped the back of his shirt. Stanley’s arms wrapped all the way around her waist and held her with desperate strength. Her forehead pressed against his neck. His chin rested on her shoulder. Their tears soaked into each other’s clothes like rain into dry sand.

Their tears kept falling. Ivy cried from relief. From love. From the shock of seeing him alive and near. Stanley cried from regret. From longing that had burned like fire inside him. From the fear of losing her again. His shoulders shook with quiet sobs, surprising even him. He had always been the strong one, the man who never cried, the man whose charm made women lose their balance. Yet here he was, breaking into soft helpless tears that soaked into Ivy’s hair.

For about ten minutes, it felt like the world stood still while they held each other. Their bodies trembled. Their breaths shook. Their tears came like a river that had been locked behind a wall for too long.

Cindy stood behind them. At first she smiled, but the moment she saw the depth of their embrace, her throat tightened. She covered her mouth with one hand. She did not even know when tears slipped out of her own eyes. The sight of two hearts finding each other again washed through her like a soft warm wave.

Stanley pulled back only a little, just enough to see Ivy’s face and confirm she was truly the one. Her cheeks were wet. His chin was wet. Something in his chest broke again when he saw the tears on her lashes. Ivy lifted her trembling hand and touched his cheek gently. He closed his eyes at her touch, his breath catching like a child. His tears fell again, hot and helpless.

“Ivy,” he whispered, voice unsteady. “I missed you. I missed you so much.”

Her lips quivered. “I never stopped loving you.”

Before she could finish the words, he leaned forward. A soft sound escaped him. Then he pulled her closer and began to kiss her.

It was not a gentle kiss. It was a deep, long, desperate kiss. A kiss that tasted of tears and longing and months of pain. Ivy held his face in both hands. Stanley’s fingers moved into her hair. Their bodies pressed together again.
His breath mingled with hers. Her warmth soaked into him. His lips moved with a hunger that came from every lonely night he had spent thinking of her. Ivy pulled and kissed him back again with the same fire, the same need, the same emotion that made her knees weak.

Their tears touched their lips and neither of them cared. They held each other like two souls reuniting after a long exile. And the world faded while only their love remained.
